HCT on it's way back up!

Written by Hommerts Cycling Team at 09:23 22/8-2019

  After a break in seasons 44, 45, 46 and 47 Hommerts Cycling Team returned to OCM in season 48. That was a surprise, since the team was bankrupt and manager Boonstra said if he returned he would create a new team.

  "There was no money left. We sold all our riders and also the equipment, which was a pretty stupid move. The money that we generated from those sales also vanished quickly because we had a lot of bills that had yet to be payed. After that we decided to quit completely."

  Then why come back with the same team and not a new one?

  "I couldn't let this team and its history die" said Boonstra. "Also some members of the staff were willing to come back to this team and not a new one. So in the end the choice was simple."

  In the past HCT always focused on sprinting with the likes of Miyazaki, Uramoto Ko, Tadaki Ko, Christopher Feaux but now the team has completely switched to climbing.

  "With no money left the only thing that remains to do is focus on own youth. We started scouting in the area and decided that if we find a good sprinter we focus on sprint. If we find a good climber then we focus on climbing. And we found a climber."

  Djowie van den Kroon joined at age 24 and was trained quickly. Some older and experienced climbing teammates we're hired from the free hire list to support him. And so he managed to get 10 results in his first season. Which generated a lot of money that we could put in the training of our next self-scouted trainee, the 19y old Jacob Wieringh.

  Wieringh turned out to be special and has now reached his very high potential. Only a second TT center session is left for him. Meanwhile he also scored a bunch of results already.

  With Wieringh and van den Kroon HCT now has 2 worthy captains that should get the team to, hopefully, division 3. Goal now is to get some good support because we have some old helpers now. The 19 year old Vincent de Jong is going to be one of those new helpers, he was hired a few days ago and will receive training quickly.

  "We focus on our own youth completely. Dutch only. That's our motto now. Lets see where its gets us!"

  Thnx guys!

  @glory days

  You're right! But sometimes it's hard to stay patient. Especially in the beginning when you come back, only thing you can do is wait for jobs and merchandise and hopefully a result now and then. But it gets better when you finally found(and trained) a captain.
